The city of brotherly love is gearing up for an exhilarating event that combines athleticism, scenic beauty, and historic charm. The ‘BMW Love Run Philadelphia Half Marathon and 7K’ is set to take place on Sunday, March 24, 2024, and promises an unforgettable experience for runners and spectators alike.

The Premier Spring Half Marathon

Since its inception, the Love Run Philadelphia Half Marathon has captured the hearts of more than 11,000 runners annually. This year, participants from around the nation will converge on the streets of Philadelphia to celebrate their love for running and the vibrant city that surrounds them. Here’s what you need to know about this iconic event:

Half Marathon Course

The BMW Love Run Philadelphia Half Marathon course will start and finish at the beautiful Art Museum at Eakins Oval.

You will run the awesome streets of Philadelphia passing some of the Nations most historic landmarks to wind back past friends and family lining the Benjamin Franklin Parkway where you will enter Fairmount Park. You will run through the picturesque roads of the park to make your “sprint” to the finish in front of Eakins Oval and home of the “Rocky Steps”.

With its flat terrain and scenic views, this course is perfect for both seasoned runners and first-timers.

Course for Love Run Philadelphia Half Marathon and 7K

7K

The course runs along the same course as the half marathon course running down the Benjamin Franklin Parkway around City Hall and the epic sights of Center City.

The 7.6K starts the same time as the half marathon and also begins and ends at the iconic art museum steps. This race distance is limited to 2,500 runners so sign up in advance.

Rain or Shine

The Love Run Philadelphia Half Marathon and 7K is a “rain or shine” event. Whether the sun is shining or raindrops are falling, the spirit of camaraderie and determination will prevail. Participants are encouraged to embrace the elements and make memories that will last a lifetime.

Traffic Delays and Alternate Routes

As thousands of runners hit the streets, some traffic delays are inevitable. Motorists are advised to plan ahead and consider alternate routes during the event. The Love Run organizers have worked closely with city officials to minimize disruptions.

The following streets will be closed on Friday, March 22 beginning at 7 p.m. in preparation for race day:

  • MLK Drive will be closed to vehicular traffic until Monday, March 25 at 7 a.m.

The following streets will be closed on Sunday, March 24 beginning at 3 a.m. until approximately 1 p.m.:

  • Benjamin Franklin Parkway from 22nd Street to Eakins Oval
  • Eakins Oval from Benjamin Franklin Parkway to the Philadelphia Museum of Art
  • Kelly Drive from Eakins Oval to Brewery Hill Drive

The entirety of the Love Run Philadelphia Half Marathon and 7K courses will close at approximately 6:45 a.m.

Roads will be reopened as they are serviced and cleared. All roads in Center City are expected to be reopened to vehicular traffic by 11 a.m. Detailed course maps for Love Run Philadelphia Half Marathon and 7K can be found online.

Public Safety Information

Attendees should never leave bags or other items unattended. In the event of an emergency or to report a suspicious person, activity or item (backpack, package, container, etc.), notify a police officer immediately or call 9-1-1. Do not try to open, move, cover or touch a suspicious item.

For the safety of race participants, flying of drones or UAS along the route by hobbyists is prohibited. Commercial pilots with appropriate FAA waivers are encouraged to notify the City through the Philadelphia UAS Notification Form.
